Guild Starfire V 2021 Korea Snowcrest White

This Guild Starfire V was made in Korea in 2021 and is finished in Snowcrest White.

The Starfire V forms part of Guild’s Newark St. Collection and draws heavily on the company’s classic semi-hollow electric guitars of the 1960s. Its graceful double-cutaway body, twin f-holes, black pickguard, block fingerboard inlays and substantial Guild vibrato give it a look that is unmistakably its own.

The semi-hollow body has an arched mahogany top and back, mahogany sides and a solid centre block. This provides some of the open character and resonance associated with a hollow guitar while offering greater control at stage volume.

A set three-piece mahogany, maple and mahogany neck is paired with a bound ebony fingerboard, 22 narrow-jumbo frets and pearloid block position markers. The Vintage Soft U profile provides a comfortable amount of substance without feeling unnecessarily bulky.

The guitar is fitted with two Guild LB-1 Little Bucker pickups. These sit physically and tonally between a mini-humbucker and a traditional full-sized humbucker, producing a clear and airy response while retaining the warmth and body expected from a twin-pickup semi-hollow guitar.

Each pickup has its own volume and tone controls, accompanied by a three-way selector and a separate master volume. The master volume is a particularly useful feature, allowing the overall output to be adjusted without disturbing the balance already set between the two pickups.

Hardware includes a Guild Tune-O-Matic bridge mounted on an ebony base, Grover Sta-Tite machine heads and Guild’s aluminium vibrato tailpiece. The vibrato provides smooth pitch movement while forming a major part of the Starfire V’s distinctive appearance.

This is not simply another variation on the familiar twin-humbucker semi-hollow formula. The smaller LB-1 pickups, five-control electronics and Guild vibrato give the Starfire V a personality that separates it from the usual crowd.
