This Fender Jazz Bass was made in the USA in 1971 and is finished in 3-Colour Sunburst.
The bass remains in its original specification, retaining its original finish, pickups, tortoiseshell pickguard, bridge, tuners and metalwork.
Its maple neck is paired with a bound rosewood fingerboard, pearl block position markers and 20 frets. This combination, together with the large Fender headstock logo and chrome hardware, gives it the unmistakable appearance of an early 1970s Jazz Bass.
The original Fender single-coil pickups are controlled by the traditional arrangement of individual neck and bridge volume controls with a shared tone control. The two pickups provide the familiar Jazz Bass range, from the fuller and rounder neck-pickup sound through to the sharper bridge-pickup response, with plenty of useful territory between the two.
One control pot has been replaced during the bass’s working life. We mention it for completeness, but regard it as routine maintenance rather than a meaningful loss of character. When a pot dies, replacing it keeps the instrument doing the job it was built to do. Preserving a failed electrical component might please a future archaeologist, but it does not make the bass work.
The body shows genuine scratches, small dings and general play wear, with more noticeable marking to the rear. These are honest signs of use rather than artificial ageing, and the bass presents as a well-kept vintage instrument that has been played rather than stored as an ornament.
At 4.27 kg, it has the reassuring weight and substantial feel commonly associated with Fender basses from this period.
This is a strong, largely original example of an early 1970s Jazz Bass, retaining the parts that matter while having received the minor maintenance required to remain a functioning instrument.
Supplied with a hardshell case.
