1972 Gibson SG Custom, made in the USA and finished in Walnut.
This example combines the classic mahogany construction, bound ebony fingerboard and gold-plated Custom appointments with three Dragonfire humbuckers.
The replacement pickups cost it some originality, but as a player’s guitar they are anything but an apology. They are powerful, immediate and particularly impressive when driven hard.
Very good vintage condition with honest marks and play wear.

Description
This Gibson SG Custom was made in the USA in 1972 and is finished in Walnut.
The SG Custom sat at the top of Gibson’s SG range, with a slim mahogany body, set mahogany neck, bound ebony fingerboard, block inlays and gold-plated hardware.
At 3.1 kg, it has the reach and upper-fret access expected from an SG without the bulk of a Les Paul Custom.
The original Gibson pickups have been replaced with three Dragonfire humbuckers. That naturally affects its appeal to die-hard collectors, and the price reflects this, but it certainly has not left the guitar short of a top-notch voice. The body has character to spare.
The Dragonfires are loud, lively and extremely responsive to overdrive. They do not politely hint that the amplifier should work harder. They tell it.
For a guitar now more than half a century old, it remains in very good condition. There are scratches, small dings and some buckle wear, together with marks on the rear of the neck where the guitar has previously been rested or leaned.
The ebony fingerboard is particularly clean, as are the frets. The frets appear to have been dressed at some point, which is hardly surprising on a guitar of this age, but there is still plenty of usable meat on the bone .
This is not an untouched collector’s piece. It is a striking vintage SG Custom that has been played, maintained and equipped with a set of pickups capable of waking relatives several generations in either direction.
The guitar weighs 3.1 kg and is supplied with a hardshell case.
