1965 Burns Jazz Splitsound

£1,600.00

A wonderful example of one of Britain’s most distinctive electric guitars, this 1965 Burns Jazz Split-Sound captures the innovation and style that made Burns London famous during the golden age of British guitar manufacturing. With its unmistakable looks, versatile electronics and unmistakably British character, it’s an instrument that appeals to both serious collectors and players looking for something genuinely different.

The three Burns Tri-Sonic pickups deliver a broad range of tones, from crisp articulate cleans through to rich, full-bodied vintage sounds. The famous Split-Sound switching system allows combinations not normally found on guitars of the period, making this a remarkably flexible instrument for studio work, classic rock, surf, blues, instrumental music and vintage pop.

The neck has the comfortable feel you’d expect from a mid-sixties Burns, making it an enjoyable guitar to play as well as admire.

James Ormston Burns was born in 1925 in Durham, England. He played Hawaiian guitar in a number of bands and built his first electric Hawaiian steel guitar in 1944. In 1952 he built his first six-string solidbody, which he promptly sold to a local music shop. In 1959 he began producing guitars and amplifiers in earnest. Soon he began exporting guitars to America under both the Burns and Ampeg trademarks.
