1970 Commodore N25 335-Style Semi-Acoustic Guitar – Made in Japan
A wonderfully characterful piece of early 1970s Japanese guitar history, this Commodore is a 335-style double-cutaway electric dating from around 1970.
Commodore guitars were sold in the UK during the late 1960s and early 1970s, with the produced in Japan by Matsumoku, a factory that would become well known for building instruments for a wide range of brands. The same basic design appeared under several different names, including Aria, Univox and Epiphone.
With its slim double-cutaway body, twin pickups, traditional f-holes takes clear inspiration from the classic Gibson ES-335 family while retaining the distinctive construction and styling associated with Japanese guitars of the period.
This example has a sunburst finish, bound fingerboard with block position markers and the wonderfully period-correct hardware and controls that give these early Japanese electrics so much visual character.
