1966 GUILD STARFIRE 3

£2,450.00

A genuine vintage Guild Starfire 3 dating from 1966. The Starfire IV combines Guild’s distinctive double-cutaway styling with semi-hollow construction, a centre block, set neck and 24 3/4-inch scale.

Introduced in the early 1960s, the Starfire 3 became one of Guild’s most recognisable electric guitars and remains a particularly appealing alternative to the better-known American semi-hollow designs of the period.

Description

1966 Guild Starfire 3

This 1966 Guild Starfire 3 comes from one of the most important periods in Guild’s electric guitar history.

Introduced in 1963, the Starfire 3 took Guild’s established Starfire concept into a double-cutaway semi-hollow design. The body incorporates a central block, giving the guitar more resistance to feedback than a fully hollow electric while retaining the character and response associated with a semi-hollow instrument.

The Starfire 3 quickly became one of the most successful electric guitars in the Guild range.

This 1966 example has the classic early Starfire proportions, with a set neck, rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets and Guild’s relatively compact 24 3/4-inch scale length.

Its twin-pickup layout is controlled by separate volume and tone controls for each pickup together with a pickup selector switch. It is an uncomplicated and extremely usable arrangement that gives independent control over the neck and bridge pickup settings.
